Find Your MUSE: Death of Zenith(ft Sam Astaroth) – Portal(Official Music Video)

Caleb Straus is a man of many hats, and while completing his first film Overnight, he has also started another musical project known as Death of Zenith. It will be a part of his music label Solunar Records. He describes it as cinematic metal, and to give us an idea what exactly that means, he released his first official track “Portal” which features the vocal stylings of the enigmatic Sam Astaroth. It will serve as the third single from the soundtrack of the film as well as the opening credits music sequence.

The theme of the song is about overcoming pain. The musical style has a sludge like quality to it, which with the demonic growling of Sam Astaroth gives the song a wicked kind of vibe to it. The video itself shows a man coping with pain in unhealthy ways before ultimately deciding to end the pain in the only way he sees available to him. I think ultimately, what the song is trying to say is despite how bad the pain hurts mentally, there is a way to overcome it. You just have to have the mental capacity to do it. Just like the song title suggests, you have to open a portal and crawl your way out.

It was a smart decision to include Sam Astaroth on the song, and here is what he had to say about his contribution:

“I had a blast transcribing the script of the movie into suitable lyrics and vocals for this song. Portal is about overcoming pain and suffering through perseverance. Musically this song is for fans of Korn, Nine Inch Nails and Slipknot with vocals being inspired by Dark Trap rapping, Industrial singing and Extreme Metal growls/screams.”

So if you are fan of musicians that takes different genres, puts them in a blender, and comes up with a tasty mixture, this is the song for you. It is available on all streaming music services, click the link to listen to the track.
