Fantastic Four: The First Steps(Review)

The Fantastic Four has now been introduced to the MCU proper, and this movie acts like the true follow up to the very first Fantastic Four movie back in 2005. In ways its a more better sequel than Rise of Silver Surfer was. It even has some of the same events happen that happened in that movie.

We watch as The Fantastic Four on a different earth show they will do anything to protect the Earth as well as help advance its technology. When an all powerful threat known as Galactus arrives who asks too high of a price, the family must come together to figure out how to save their home from imminent destruction.

Galactus is shown in all his glory, and every scene he was in was just eye candy. We could have had more of him, but yeah it was great to see he was corrected. The Silver Surfer, I was okay with the gender bend, but did we need them to be a romantic interest and that helps them have a change of heart?

There’s a montage of different battles The Fantastic Four had, but other than that, it was just watching them get prepared for their first baby in the family as well as the arrival of Galactus.

The final battle with Galactus was cool but they stole right from new Superman movie as to how that was dealt with. We all waited for the true payoff that got relegated to a mid credits scene.

I heard that was cuts made, and maybe thats why the pacing felt like a bit of a slog. It’s better in a way than Rise of Silver Surfer, and we got what we needed from it. However in my own opinion it didn’t feel exactly fantastic. It’s good though. Definitely a tribute to Jack Kirby and Stan Lee throughout.

This film is currently playing in theaters if you decide to check it out.
