Happy Gilmore 2(Review)

Sometimes sequels come a little too late..im this case it was just about 30 years too late. Happy Gilmore 2 was like a highlight reel, repeating a lot of bits from the first one. It was still dumb fun but the humor didnt land as well as it did first time around.

The plot sees Happy Gilmore who really let himself go after his wife passed away from a golfing accident. He swears to never golf again but to protect his kids future as well save the legacy of golf, he ends up picking up the clubs again.

Adam Sandler is wayyy too old to be doing this again. He portrays the character basically the same, and has a redemption arc. Talk about old, how about Shooter McGavin. He comes back as a rival but then teams up with Gilmore. They wrote Virginia off but she does make a cameo. A lot of cameos as well as new characters.

The story is good enough to keep the audience interested. Crude humor but most of it is outdated. You will still laugh but also be cringing a lot. It all ends as a send off and we hope there won’t be a third with Happy Gilmore in a walker.

Its not the worst, I mean its entertaining and all. But definitely I dont understand the trend of producing sequels over 20 years later. Sometimes it works, other times its like ship has already sailed. In this case it was just plain dumb fun. It didnt capture the magic like the first one did so well at doing. It’s currently streaming on Netflix if you wanna check it out!
