28 Days Later(Review)

In the list of top tier zombie films, 28 Days Later is one of movies on that for good reason. Arguments are made about what constitutes a zombie but this is zombification on a different level. But what can’t be argued is how fantastic this movie is. We get world building. Carnage. This movie portrayed an apocalyptical universe before Walking Dead did, and did it better. I’ll go so far to say 28 Days Later ran so that Walking Dead could walk.

The story centers on a bike courier Jim who wakes up from a coma only to find himself one of the last uninfected survivors of the rage virus. He meets up other survivors and joins them to find a safe haven.

This is one of Cillian Murphy’s earliest roles and he does so good with it. We can see the anguish he deals with once he discovers the truth of the world. We also see more of Jim then we care to..this movie does not shy away from nudity. We also grow to love the ragtag bunch of survivors that he joins. There’s a sequence where Christmas music plays endlessly does that mean technically 28 Days Later is a Christmas movie?

There’s an amazing sequence in the movie where Jim, who all we know is he was a bike courier, he goes all silent assassin’s mode against a group of soldiers. He uses the help of the infected just letting people being mauled and showing no remorse. He displays his rage to the point you would think if he was infected. Just a brilliant moment.
As it turns out there are worse monsters than the infected and what might be safe can quickly turn into a prison. The antagonist who is played by Christopher Eccleston is a dastardly guy who will stop at nothing to see the continuation of the human race.

The ending will prove if all the survival skills they have are enough to face a threat from the infected and humans alike.

Oh yeah there are very gory moments for example the infected with vomiting blood at any moment. One thing I will give credit for is how Jim is left having to deal with an infected child. They don’t show it but it is implied and later confirmed how Jim managed to resolve the situation.

Mostly this film owns, and it spawned a sequel 28 Weeks Later and recently announced was the next entry 28 Years Later. And there is high rumor Jim will be returning. We will have to wait to see how it all plays out, but if he does come back, well to put it this way, he’s in a very bad way. Dude let himself go.

Anyway yes, 28 Days Later is amazing. Here’s the unfortunate part..unless you already own the DVD, it’s not available to watch otherwise. It doesn’t exist anywhere virtually due to rights issues. But not to worry. Sony is working on rectifying that and should have an update on that shortly. I think you can still find it on DVD, maybe on Ebay. Definitely worth every penny. It’s a great film.

I don’t normally ask of you guys, but if you believe in this film as much as I do, please register using link below to be notified when 28 Days Later becomes available digitally. The more people we get the more it will make Sony get their head out of their ass and realize they been sitting on a gold mine. Thank you in advance.
