Anaconda(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

In the late 90s, an unassuming movie was birthed known as Anaconda. It had everything that would spell success…a massive star studded cast, a massive snake, and a creepy Jon Voight.

The plot is about a film crew who trek in the Amazon jungle to locate a forgotten tribe, but instead find a man who is seemingly marooned. He is on the hunt for the legendary anaconda, and the crew are unwittingly recruited to help him with this task.

The casts consists of Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Owen Wilson just to name a few. Jon Voight plays the role of the big white hunter, and he definitely contends with the snake for which will give you nightmares. He is almost likes a snake himself in some of the scenes, especially when you can tell he is up to no good. Just his facial expressions are enough to give you the heebie jeebies.

The film itself is actually good, despite its outrageous moments, such as having the snake roar everytime it attacks. The kill scenes are pretty brutal. The introductory texts discusses the way anaconda eats their prey and there is a bit of regurgitating, and let’s just say that does play out in the final moments of the movie. It’s pretty gross but also fitting due to a certain person meeting their end.

Anaconda was successful enough to spawn a few sequels and indirectly responsible for launching a giant snake franchise. It is currently streaming on Netflix if you want to revisit it, which I highly recommend

Till next time, stay scared!!
