Demon Seed(1977)(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

Created in the late 70s, based on a Dean Koontz novel of the same name, Demon Seed is a techno-horror about AI totally gone wrong.

The plot is about a husband who creates an advanced super computer named Proteus IV which eventually decides to take his wife hostage for disturbing reasons.

So we see the dangers of putting too much trust in technology within your home because you never know when a machine mind will take it over and make you a prisoner in your own home. When Proteus reveals it’s nefarious plan, the wife tries to fight back but is unsuccessful.

The husband in unaware of the infiltration of home, even though Proteus leaves him obvious clues and shows signs of rebellion. It’s not until it is too late that it dawns on the husband an earlier conversation he had with Proteus. He rushes home, and when everything is revealed, he sees this as a new opportunity for science. Traumatized and horrified as to how unhelpful her husband is being, she tries to end the program once and for all. Is she successful? You will have to watch Demon Seed to find out. It is currently streaming on Tubi.

This is a movie that is horrorifying for the right reasons and it is even appropriate for modern audiences. Just a warning if you will or a glimpse of our folly in placing so much trust in technology..One day it could be turned against us, and we will be left fighting a battle we can’t win..Which is essentially what the wife experiences here. A pretty good film worth watching in my opinion.

Till next time, stay scared!
