Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is the companion to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, though it is not as popular or even well known. I think that is due to the tone of the movie, but it is a shame that this movie is mostly forgotten as it’s a good adaptation.

The movie presents a grittier take on the tale from the novel of a mad scientist who creates a being, only to abandon his creation once the horror sets in of what he has done. This is darker version and set as realistically as possible. Robert De Niro plays the creature and is barely recognizable in the role. The film is more faithful to the novel, and I loved how it presented the idea of what is evil. Is the creature evil or is it the man who defied the laws of nature to create such an abomination in the first place?

The movie is pretty morbid, and keeps your attention. It definitely lacks the oomph that Bram Stoker’s Dracula had, but still entertaining. If you have yet to see this, definitely check it out for yourself, it is currently streaming on HBOMAX.

Till next time, stay scared!
