You know those movies you saw repetitively as a kid that just vanished from your memory? Then one random day you see a box cover and go “oh shit!”? ‘Seedpeople’ was a movie I used to rent on VHS heavily, but completely forgot about it until just a few weeks ago.
A town called Comet Valley has a reputation for UFO sightings and meteor crashes. One random day, the people in town begin to act strangely, and it’s not long until some old locals discover a mysterious series of pods appearing on the land. Little do they know that they are infecting everyone and turning them into plant aliens.
This is a Full Moon Feature so it’s rich with puppetry, gross violence, and that B-Level filmmaking we all love. It feels like a hybrid of ‘Invasion of the Bodysnatchers’, ‘Critters’, and even a bit of ‘Ernest Scared Stupid’ – 3 movies i deeply love, because the puppets are hairy, hungry, and sometimes roll around. It has goop, cringe-worthy acting, and silly but tense set pieces.
It’s a lot of fun and really brings me back to the days when horror was fun and entertaining on the forefront instead of trying to be too serious or make a strong social point.
3.5/5
