Suck(2009)(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

Holy crap this movie is a blast! Suck(2009) is very campy and what a cast!! We have Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins and Malcolm McDowell. This movie very much taps into the rock and roll vibe.

The story is about a struggling band just trying to make it big. Their female member goes home with an unusual fan, and comes back as a vampire. Just how are they willing to go to chase their dream? Well, as it shown here, they are willing to do anything even if they end up over their heads.

Let’s talk first about the head vampire who looks campy as heck and is just enjoying himself in the movie. We see a music video montage as he woos his potential victim and from research the role was played by a musician as well. The special effects of the vampires were done well here.

Then there is Malcolm McDowell playing maybe a long lost relative of the Van Helsing family sporting an eye patch the whole time. It’s not explained what happened and we do even get a scene from his past where they de-aged him so he looks exactly like he did when McDowell appeared in A Clockwork Orange. I’m talking spitting image. It definitely tripped me out seeing that scene.

I can’t emphasize enough just how fun this movie is. It’s one of those rock and roll horrors and it shows. All the cameos from the musicians fit their roles perfectly. As to what happens to the band…ultimately it is decided the price of their fame is too high and they decide to confront the head vampire with the help of McDowell’s character.
Suck(2009) is currently streaming on Amazon Prime and I feel confident that you will enjoy it as much as I did.
