Introducing a new column! There are movies that may not be horror but are on the very fringes of horror. Superman is an action hero movie, but deep within, horrors lurk. A kaiju even shows up. So yeah on Mondays, you may see us review movies that may seem out of our scope but will fit in our identity.
Okay, so there was much positive buzz about Superman. I can say they finally figured out part of being super is being human. He has a personality. He falls. He struggles with his emotions. He makes mistakes. He even finds love. So while Supes is battling his foes, he is also batting with his humanity.
We start the movie with Superman losing his very first fight. That was a plus, they didnt bother giving us yet another origin story. We got thrown right in the action.
Lex Luthor was Lex Luthor. Absolutely the one we know and love. Maybe next time we will see his other suit. Most of the characters stood out and had their own arcs. It reminded me of Invincible in that way. It wasn’t just focused on Superman. People will say there’s too much going on but it was a good thing.
Could we talk about Krypto? Such a good adorable doggo. And they played them like they were a puppy. Except imagine an unruly canine with super powers. He was the actual star of the movie.
The story was great, there some twists you wont see coming. Stay tuned for Easter Eggs. Now yes mid-credits and post credits are pointless but that was for a reason. His gag for people who stay until after credits. Nice job lol.
Top and down this is my favorite one since Superman II..in fact this movie takes number one, it was that damn good. I enjoyed myself. From moment it started flying(what a flying sequence!!), I was locked in. I think that’s something else they finally got right was when Superman flies.
So yeah, highly recommend seeing it in theatres it released on July 11th so most places you should be able to see it. You will want to. Even if you know nothing from the comics, you will still have a fun time. If this gets more people interested in the character , thats definitely a win.
They called this a reset and it was! More of this please!
