The Canal(2014)(Review)

Ever now and then, my social media feed suggests a horror movie that strikes my interest. Such was the case with an Irish horror The Canal(2014) which ended being predictable but was interesting to see it unfold.

The plot sees a film archivist who discovers via historicalfootage his new home was a sight of the grisly murder. Not only that but he also finds out his wife is being unfaithful to him. When she mysteriously disappears, he is thrust into a world of madness and despair.

So this film will lead you to believe there is a supernatural presence roaming about. Along with that, there is an psychological horror aspect as well. We see as the man is tormented by the footage of what he is seeing. It bleeds into his reality as he tries to uncover the mystery of what is going on. He is also grieving. So this guy is pretty messed up.

There’s some nightmarish images and creepy atmosphere. Where the film really unravels is when it nears its conclusion. Now how this movie ended made my mouth drop. I was not expecting it to go there. Ill say its a very dark ending.

In all, I found it interesting where it plays with the supernatural element. But you get clues that there’s more to it than that. Some of imagery is pretty disturbing to look at. The story well its rather predictable but still good the way it turned out. It’s worth checking out and is currently streaming on Fandango At Home.
