The Ceremony Is About to Begin
I been on a found footage kick lately, and I am going to talk about the latest offering The Ceremony Is About To Begin. It’s a very wild time.
The plot is about a documentary filmmaker who visits a commute known as The Osiris Collective which is an Egyptian themed cult to try to find out more clues about the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend.
There are interviews with former members who detail about the cult and how their lives were changed. They also tell us how things took a dark time with the arrival of a man named Anubis.
Once the filmmaker arrives at the community, right away theres a sense of uneasy as there’s no one in sight. Anubis is quirky but he keeps acting dodgy even when repeatedly asked where everyone else is.
Interspersed are interviews who tell us more we should keep our eyes on Anubis.
Its a slow process but we watch more as the two interact and our protagonist falls more into Anubis’s grasp.
It’s not until nearly the end of the movie that the curtain is pulled back and it changes everything. Mummies attack(and it will really hit when it’s realized who the mummies once were), and madness ensues.
So what’s explored here is how there could be an idea, but seeing what happens when that is corrupted. The former cult members even say they left once Anubis just took over because it wasn’t the same. But the people who stayed was doomed. We already know Anubis can’t be trusted, we just have to wait for the main character to find that out. By the time he does, it’s too late.
I thought this was a pretty solid found footage horror. There’s definitely that feeling the whole time that something is not right. The tail end of the movie will shock you. It’s going to take time getting there so be aware but once you do, it’s something. I’ll recommend to check it out and it’s currently streaming on Tubi.
