The Church(Review)

Did you know there was a third film planned to go along with Demons 1 and 2? However that never came to be and out of that The Church was filmed instead. It was produced by Dario Argento and Goblin provided the score.

The story is about the titular church which was built on a mass grave. Not a great idea and before you know it, chaos ensues with multiple people becoming possessed and all sort of strange happenings.

Needless to say shit gets weird. Someone tears out their own heart, there is a death by jackhammer which causes everyone in the church to become trapped, and someone starts tearing off their own face. The most shocking death involves an incoming subway.

There’s a particular bit that kind of sat with me with two boys, one of them was attacked and scared asking the other boy to watch over him. They say a quote something about if I watch over a friend, their face becomes mine. So the scared boy is covering his face this whole time and he falls asleep revealing his face looking like the other boys.

Then it all leads to an ending where a girl has sex with a demon leading to the mass of bodies raising from a hole in a ground and they are in the shape of a demon head.

This movie is just wild and yeah it’s not going to make a lick of sense, things will seem all over the place, but you get the general idea of what is happening and why. If you like Argento’s works, definitely check it out. It’s currently streaming on Tubi.
