The owls are not what they seem indeed.
The 2000s was the summer of Milla Jovovich. If it was action horror, nine times out of ten she be in it. And if Paul W S Anderson was involved, then not only do you get Milla Jovovich, you would get her naked.
But then you get The Fourth Kind a dramatic reenactment of actual evidence of exterrestrial contact. What we see is how Dr Abigail Tyler discovers evidence proving people were abducted by aliens. She then discovers they are trying to send her a message.
The film is juxtaposition between the real events and what is being portrayed. I dont know if I could bite the way Jovovich portrayed the real Abigail Taylor. Also how do we know the real Abigail Taylor wasn’t an alien? Like just look how she looks.
This film does get super creepy in moments especially during the later hypnosis sessions. The audio definitely lends to the atmosphere of experiencing something unreal and unexplainable. Its gets to the point that you aren’t sure you’re even seeing a person anymore. They do translate well….. most of the speech. You are still left utterly confused at to what it even means. An alien pretended to be god? Okay.
The psychologist sees herself at the center due to every time she interviews someone who was abducted by aliens, they go crazy. Even when shown irrefutable proof Abigail Taylor still finds herself almost behind the bars. They even eventually take consider of her son.
As to what the aliens wanted? I guess all they needed was someone’s kid. That’s it. But post credits show aliens are invading other cities.
This one gets A+ from me. Solid film. It does well with the atmosphere. It had it flaws. I loved how it gave you a view between what actually happened to what you see happening. And they were mostly accurately portraying those events. Those owls were pretty spooky. You can find this for rent or buy on Amazon Prime or Vudu. Definitely check it out!
Till next time, stay scared!
