I feel it would be nice someday to see Peter Jackson return to his horror roots. He was responsible for some pretty solid horror comedies, and The Frighteners is a pure example of that.
The plot is about a man who gains the gift to see the paranormal after the tragic loss of his wife. He uses that gift to con people but then ends up investigating a real case of people dying in mysterious circumstances. He finds himself in a situation over his head and has to avoid becoming the next victim.
This is a very fun film as we watch Michael J Fox in the main role and we can’t help not to laugh as he bumbles through one situation to the next. Most of the ghosts he encounters are along for the ride with him and adds to the amusement value.
Even the more darker moments are not that scary, so this something you can watch with the whole family. By the end, Fox’s character learns more of his gift he has been given and hopefully a lesson learned.
This is absolutely a classic and something we can hope will never be remade. It is currently streaming on Tubi, it’s hard to imagine that no one has seen this yet, but if you haven’t, it is absolutely worth your time to check out.
Till next time, stay scared!
