Tremors 4: The Legend Begins(Review)

We are on number 4 in the Tremors series, and we are taking it all the way back to the Wild West in this one. Tremors 4: The Legend Begins is a prequel and we see Michael Gross sporting a mustache and donning a different accent as Hiram Gummer. We are left to assume he is a long distance relative of Burt Gummer.

In the town of Rejection, which would become Perfection, people are leaving due to the silver mine closing on the account of workers mysterious disappearing or winding up killed. So Hiram Gummer comes to deal with the issue himself.

The culprit is the larval form of Graboids affectionately known as Dirt Dragons. They are cute size versions of Graboids. They can propel themselves through the air to attack their prey. They can also swarm their prey dragging them down for a nice little snack.

So Hiram hires a hitman by the name of Black Hand Kelly. I can’t explain how but adding Ivan Drago definitely added more to this movies charm. You can tell he was enjoying playing the role.
But as they discover, adult formed Graboids are lurking about and this is where the Gummer legacy begins with the first Graboid encounter.

Now Hiram at first is bit of a pansy He even tries to run with his tail between his legs. But he slowly ascends to the throne of gun toting madman we all know and love. After he learns the Graboids menace is on its way, he arms himself to the gills.

We get a rehash of the first film where as the graboids are eliminated, there is always one that is way too smart and not so easy to kill.

What does Hiram Gummer do?

He attaches its tail to a steam traction engine where it implodes into bloody bits.

His reward for saving the town is a gatling gun that we see him using in glee as the movie ends.

Okay so this one was actually not so bad. It’s number 3 on my list mostly because I respected what it wanted to do. The story made sense and it even explains how Burt Gummer didn’t know of Graboids as it was kept as a secret the first encounter even happened. It still had a playful charm. We even see the prototype of Changs Market. And I think this is one and final appearance of those adorable Dirt Dragons.

Just everything about this movie clicks and it may be underrated in my opinion. Definitely an enjoyable time though and through.

But then sadly after this, we get part 5 that contains CGI that really brings the quality down. Oh yeah we will talk all about that.

Till next time, stay scared!
