Silent Hill(2006)(Review)

With the revitalization of the Silent Hill franchise, including a new movie, it’s appropriate to look back at the very first film adaptation from 2006.

The story sees a mother and daughter who go to the iconic town of Silent Hil to look for answers. The daughter disappears upon their arrival and the mother seeks her as well as discovering the town’s dark secrets as well.

Going in, just think of it as a stand-alone story that has nothing to do with the games. Though this movie does well in capturing a lot of the nightmarish imagery from them. We get most of the iconic creatures such as Pyramidhead, the nurses, and others. We get the siren as it transitions in the hellscape. There’s Easter Eggs galore, and they even bring in the iconic soundtrack from Akira Yamaoke at times.

Now where the movie struggles a bit is with the acting and dialogue. It gets pretty hammy. Half the times its just screaming. The story is okay enough, it fits the world. But yeah, as cool as it was to look at, even with using CGI, this movie was really not as great as it should have been.

Even with the fact it literally has the most metal ending sequence full of blood and barb wire. But that doesnt last too long, and they must have ran out of ideas as the movie just ends.

It’s worth checking out, especially if you are a fan of the games. It even got a sequel, and then 20 years later, got a reboot. You can see it currently streaming on Shudder if you want to take a look at it.
