Wes Craven presents Mind Ripper(Review)

The 90s contained a good bit of weird obscure horror films, the ones you watch and you have no idea what you are in for. That’s absolutely the case with Mind Ripper. It was produced by Wes Craven and was even marketed as sequel to The Hills Have Eyes even though it has no connections to those films.

The plot sees a group of scientists who conduct a government experiment program only to see it go terribly wrong.

We got Lance Henriksen as the lead scientist. The guy that is part of the experiment is named Thor, and appropriately enough he has the body and the hair to match. No power of thunder but he gets fun mutations instead caused by the experiment. If I didnt know any better this seemed like a Cronenberg film. If you seen it. you will know what I mean by that.

Now as the movie goes on, I dont know who it was they got to play Thor, but he was really having the time of his life. His facial expressions. The way he really chewed through the scenery. I won’t mention him screeching like a Pterodactyl at points.

It’s 90s so you got your stoner character. You got the guy trying to get laid. The damsel in distress. And the most 90s soundtrack ever. The effects too. Then you have the fake out ending and it left things open for a sequel. Which never came thank gods lol.

This movie was a lot of fun, it had its creepy moments but mostly I was just laughing my ass off. Definitely can see why its so obscure, but the journey is worth taking at least once. You can find this streaming on Tubi.

Till next time, stay scared!
