Gruesome Gazette

Shutter(2008)(Review)

This is a bit of a conundrum with an film from America that has elements of Japanese horror. I had to make sure because it seemed like it was a remake, but it is an original film. It has the supernatural aura you would expect, but Shutter is just a run of the mill ghost story of revenge from beyond the grave.

The story sees newlyweds who go on honeymoon in Japan and they get into an accident. Afterwards they see strange phenomena in photos that lead them to discover dark secrets from the past.

As the couple discover they are being haunted, their life slowly begins to crumble. They are unsure why, and the wife does some digging. The answers she finds are pretty shocking especially when she finds out her husband knew the person that is haunting them.

We are then told what happened. Of course, the husband doesn’t tell the whole truth. And of course, with the help of the spirit, the wife discovers what really went down. This movie is just a rehash of every haunting moment out there full of all the usual tropes.

Was there spooky moments? Sure. However this film isnt going to reinvent the wheel or anything. There are moments that supposed to shock you, but just are lazy and uninspired. The ending ends up being pretty predictable. If you want to check it out, this is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

Till next time, stay scared!
