Gruesome Gazette

Whistle(Review)

Once I discovered about Aztec Death Whistles, I am surprised it took this long to make a horror movie based on it. I went into Whistle not expecting a whole lot, but actually it’s a very bloody and fun time.

The plot is about a group of students who discovers an Aztec Death Whistle, and make the poor decision to use it. They are each then finding themselves facing death with seemingly no way to prevent what’s to come.

To give us the idea of what we are in for, the movie begins with a basketball game with a guy named Horse as one of the team members. So this movie has some dark humor going on. We are then introduced to a teacher named Craven, which I’m sure is a reference to the late Wes Craven. Later on, we get a reference to The Crow.

Dont let any of that fool you as the movie gets quite vicious with the different deaths that happen. It’s like a cousin to the Final Destination movies the only difference in this film is people die in ways they are meant to. There is one that is very gory and gruesome and it follows that up with a death that is just as bad.

We get helpful lore explaining why this is all happening, and they are told cryptically there is a way out of this. The ending sequence shows if they are able to survive this. The post credits teases the story is able to continue but may be on a grander scale.

In all, I just found this film a lot of fun. It was much better than I anticipated. There’s a scene that takes place at a haunted attraction that I really appreciated. It gets very bloody and has some spooky sequences. I highly recommend it, and you can currently find it streaming on Shudder.
