On paper, Ash is a visually stunning film, so you think it would turn out to be an amazing film. However you’re going to get the feeling that you been here before.
The story sees a lone astronaut who wakes up, and is trying to piece back her memory to figure out what happened to the crew. She meets a fellow survivor who is there to rescue her, but she must decide if she can trust their motives in being there.
There are flashy lights to watch out for, but visually the film is amazing. It gets very weird like an acid trip in space. Aaron Paul shows up and if you seen him in Westworld then you get pretty much the same here.
It’s during the last 30 minutes or so when the film just goes off the rails. Pretty much turns into an enslavement of the human race scenario. Stupid humans who FAFO lol. And as crazy pants and cool as it looks, it’s not anything we haven’t seen before. The ending was fun don’t get me wrong. It just retreads the same old ground. There’s one scene that will definitely be familiar to John Carpenter fans.
If you’re curious its currently steaming on Shudder. I wouldn’t expect much story wise but if you want to trip out, this is the movie to do that with.
