Gruesome Gazette

Birth/Rebirth(Review)

A modern take on Frankenstein that gets very dark and twisted. How far would one go if a loved one that died had a chance to live again. This movie answers those questions but will definitely play on the heart strings as it does so.

The story is about a mother whose daughter passes away unexpectedly. A doctor seizes a chance to conduct an ungodly experiment that draws the mother in, and the two team up to go to any lengths to keep the project alive.
When we first meet the doctor, we learn just how cold and callous she is. She removed herself completely from any social life and dedicates herself to her twisted work. She literally gives her body to it, however when she is no longer able to do that, she has to resort to sabatoge in order to keep her work doing.

Then there’s the mother who when she experiences the loss of her daughter goes through a gambit of emotions. Mothers out there will not have a good time with viewing this one. Because you really feel what this woman is going through. Then her daughter’s body turns up missing which then leads her right into the doctors path.
The movie gets into mad science and trying to play God. The mother is the willing accomplice, even going darker than the doctor in order to keep things going. The ending sees the experiment continue though a life is loss in order to make that happen.

Very twisted movie I will say. The score definitely adds to it. The two female main characters definitely play their role as sort of Frankenstein and Igor dynamic. It’s also an emotional rollercoaster. This is currently streaming on Shudder if you feel curious enough to check it out.
