Frankenstein(2025)(Review)

One thing that Guillermo Del Toro excels at is portraying creatures as sympathetic characters. There’s also the aspect that he makes people horny for them. He was the right choice to revive one of Universal Monsters Frankenstein, and give a whole new light to the story. It rambles quite a lot, but damn it gives us so much beauty to look at.

Adapting the original story, we get two sides of the tale, one from Victor, and one from the creature.

The cast is pretty stacked, and we almost get a Game of Thrones reunion with Charles Dance, David Bradley, and Ralph Ineson who I swear appears in every period piece based in gothic horror. Oscar Isaac plays Victor very well, brooding and very lively. Mia Goth captures the eye as the female protagonist.

The creature we see is absolutely a powerhouse, and you feel sorry for it too. Seeing this thing rip both man and beast apart is quite a sight. This film does not shy away from the gore. There’s no stopping this thing as not even explosives can do anything to put it down.

As the movie nears its end, Victor struggles to come to terms with the terrible choices he made. It’s not exactly the happiest of endings.

Definitely enjoyed the gothic imagery, and the costumes. The creature design was remarkable as well. It’s pretty faithful to the novel with some changes to it. Otherwise, it’s one of finest adaptations we gotten, and I rather enjoyed it. It’s currently streaming on Netflix if you decide to check it out. I would recommend doing so.
