Gruesome Gazette

Glorious(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

I never thought I would be writing about a horror movie set in a rest stop bathroom complete with a glory hole, but here we are. Glorious is a goopy bloody Lovecraftian horror and it was indeed glorious.

The plot sees a man who is going through a recent breakup, and ends up trapped in a rest stop bathroom with an otherworldly being who says he is the key to preventing the end of the world.

J.K Simmons voices the entity in the bathroom stall, and the performance is brilliant. Once the man encounters the creature, it pretty much goes off the rails from there, and it gets pretty disgusting at points. There is a scene of blood falling as classical music plays, and oh so much more.

What I liked most is how with a glory hole being involved, the movie fully leans into its use, and makes you think some unnatural thing is going to occur. Then, it pulls the rug from under you, and takes things in a whole other direction.

Framed under all the eldritch terror, mostly this movie explores the hell of love and breakups. It’s not an easy task, especially when the man relives his memories. Trying to figure out how it all went wrong. Turns out, there are forces beyond understanding responsible for the machinations for unknown purposes.

Gory, disgusting, and definite references to Lovecraftian God’s, I absolutely loved this even if by the end I was left thinking what the heck did I just watch. I encourage you to watch it for yourself as it is currently steaming on Shudder.
