Halloweentown(Review)

There are quite a few Disney Halloween movies, and while they may not contain scares they definitely invoke the spirit of the season. A pure example of that is the one known as Halloweentown.

The plot is about an girl named Marnie who discovers she comes from a family of witches and on her 13th birthday she is visited by her Grandmother. She is then introduced to Halloweentown and joins her Grandmother to stop evil from taking over the town.

This film is whimsical and fun, especially once we are shown Halloweentown and it’s range of citizens. There are all kinds of creatures roaming about. Maybe it is supposed to be a goblin but I swear there is even a whole ass Gremlin being portrayed. That’s what it looked like to me. My favorite is the wise cracking skeleton cabbie named Benny.

The conflict is not only with the evil forces at hand but also within the family as the mother is insistent on everyone leading a normal life as humans. She gave up her heritage of being a witch and expects Marnie to do so as well. Of course she doesn’t listen.

Will Halloweentown live to see another day? You will have to watch to find out. It’s currently streaming on Disney Plus.

I was glad to finally pay a visit, and the movie is actually good. It even has a few sequels. Definitely recommended to see it as it’s perfect for Halloween.

Till next time, stay scared!
