M3GAN(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

There is new killer doll around and her name is M3GAN. This is the recent offering from James Wan who crafted a brilliant film and may have inadvertently started a new franchise.

The plot sees a company who creates a robotic doll designed to be the perfect companion for children. The doll becomes self aware and makes it her personal mission to deal with anyone in any means necessary if they threaten her young owner.

The design of the doll makes it look very lifelike as well as going into uncanny valley moments. We are watching the robot grow and learn, and when she turns to killing, it is not necessarily her fault. That’s what happens when you don’t fully test or complete a prototype. Machines are going to struggle without a purpose, and will seek other avenues so they feel purposeful. That’s ultimately what leads the doll on her dark path.

The opening is bonkers because it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy with a fake commercial and directly after that, send you back pummeling down the pits of despair with a tragic car accident.

The kills in this were really brutal and I saw the uncensored version which is more violent. There is a scene that will make you wince and hold your ear. The body count grows and then it leads to a finale that will have you gripping the edge of your seat.

I really enjoyed this one especially because it’s giving the new generation their own franchise, a killer that is more modern for their liking. It kept up a good pace, had its silly moments to lighten the mood, and laid a lot of groundwork to build a franchise off of. A sequel has already been announced. This is good news for horror fans all around. Highly recommend checking this one out. It is currently stream on Peacock if you are curious enough to watch it.
