Overnight(Review)

Yesterday not only brought us the eclipse but it also gave us the debut film from Caleb Straus known as Overnight.
The story is about the tumultuous relationship of Craven Paulson and Darcy Sky, who are haunted by disturbing visions of each other during a rocky separation. Unable to escape from their past, the couple seeks refuge in the enigmatic Overnight Hotel, facing real and supernatural threats.

This film plays out like a love letter to David Lynch featuring mind bending scenes and surreal atmosphere. There are time jumps. doors that lead to different realities, and discussions about striped souls. These two doomed lovers find themselves unable to escape each other and using an experimental drug to keep their connection even when they don’t want it. It definitely leads them to dangerous situations.

There’s definitely some ghostly stuff which includes a mysterious boy and someone who may or not be the devil. Some gore as well. Will Craven and Darcy finally give into fate and unite? That’s something you will have to see during an explosive finale.

I definitely enjoyed one and the themes it explored. It’s no surprise that this one had public release on day of Eclipse as that plays a theme in the movie. It’s going to make you think, and may require multiple views but if you love the works of Lynch, this one is for you.

You can see it for yourself via Solunar Records where you can rent or buy it.
