The Island of Doctor Moreau(1996)(Review)

What a spectacle you will get when watching The Island of Doctor Moreau(1996). That’s once you get past the intimidating opening credits with its intimidating music. It’s so intense.

The plot is about about lone survivor of a plane crash who is brought to an island where bizarre experiments are being performed and he meets the mad scientist behind him. He want to go home but finds out there is no escape.
Yeah we got Marlon Brando looking like he just bathed in cocaine and said that’s the look I wanted to go for. But nothing beats Val Kilmer’s character turn. I won’t say much about that because it just better being seen.

We got assorted human-animal hybrids with different personalities. We can almost empathize why the one named Hyena did a heel turn and became a pretty threatening villian. You got the charming Azazello who always got a sly smile on his face. It’s like he is always up to something. Then there’s the love interest who is the mad scientist’s daughter. She has secrets she is hiding that connects back to her father.

This movie was definitely all over the place but it wasn’t awful. It was very entertaining. Stan Winston was responsible for the special effects and you can tell. Yeah I didn’t see why it was so hated. The Island of Doctor Moreau is currently streaming on Tubi if you want to give it a whirl. It’s a fun time what else can I say?
