The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu(Lovecraftian Horrors #3)(Review)

On the outside, The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu seems goofy as hell and yes it certainly is. But it also rocks especially with the presentation.

The plot sees the last living relative of H. P. Lovecraft being charged with protecting a relic that would be responsible for unleashing Cthulhu and dooming the entire world.

So yeah…this movie leans into the humor aspect. Some jokes will land while others will make you cringe. I never expected to hear the words “This is my sex face” but yeah that’s a scenario that happens and it’s very cringe. It’s a story of two best friends where one discovers his secret destiny and they go on adventures. Battling different beasties from the Cthulhu mythos. There’s the Star Spawn general who walks around in a plain t shirt the whole time. Which seems silly but this guy is no joke.

The visual effects..for a low budget movie that hardly anyone knows about, they are amazing. You would think this is something based on a graphic novel as some scenes are in a comic book format. The practical effects, the costumes and let’s not forget there is a healthy hoping of gore.

The film just flows together bringing horror and comedy into a nice melting pot in a way to make it all work. There is references galore to the Lovecraft universe. And after it ends, it leads the door open to continuing adventures but no sequels have been planned as of yet.

I happened to already be familiar with this movie. I really like it and wish it would catch on to become the cult classic that it deserves to be. It’s not perfect but in it’s own way it has its charm. It’s currently streaming on Tubi to see it for yourself.
