Giant monster loose in a museum? Sounds like a good time to me. The Relic features a creature like we never seen before, and it is based on the novel of the same name that was written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.
The plot is about a beast that ravages a museum and the people that are trying to figure out what is going on, and how to stop it. You get a good bit of science talk in this one, and whatever the creature is, it must feed on the hypothalamus of the brain in order to sustain itself. However that is because it’s original food source was destroyed.
The aftermath after the creature feeds is pretty grotesque with decapitated bodies being left after its frenzy. When the creature is finally revealed, it’s hard to describe exactly what it looks like. It is a chimera of different creatures, as well as being part human. There is a scene at the beginning that shows you the origin of the creature but if you needed further confirmation, a scene towards the end all but spells it out for you.
I read the novel the movie is based on, and the movie was fairly accurate. Of course somethings were exaggerated because its Hollywood, such as the beasts appearance and the fact they even renamed it. The movie is enjoyable due to the fact you have a monster in a different environment. It’s like A Night of the Museum except with a giant beast hunting people.
If you like monster fests, then you should enjoy The Relic. It is streaming on HBOMAX if you decide to check it out.
Till next time, stay scared!
