Incantation(2022)(Review)

There are those horror films that exist that for all intent and purposes are cursed films. Those films you watch that afterwards makes you feel uneasy, questioning if you have been cursed. Enter Incantation a brilliant found footage J horror that will take you on a journey you will never forget.

We are introduced to a young mother who straight away instructs on doing an Incantation and starts throwing up gang signs. She says its to save her daughter.

See Mommy did something bad six years ago and got herself a little cursed. She gave up her daughter to save her from the curse. But when she gets her daughter back, the curse is enacted, and the mother has to go to great lengths to protect her daughter.

It’s all first person pov for the most part with some exposition bits. Of course you get the creepy kid trope. But there’s also very solid gotcha moments too. Things that will definitely make the viewer be like what the heck am I watching.

Things get very weird the more we go on. We get more strange imagery. There are times jumps you don’t be able to tell right away that we are watching events that happened in the past.

The last half hour or so is a descent into utter hell. Sound design turns the terror levels up a notch. Grotesque imagery. Just a sense of unease. When the reveal comes, I mean it’s pretty obvious why everything is happening. What will the mother be willing to sacrifice to save her daughter from the curse? That’s what we will find out. At the end, it’s understandable to have that uneasy feeling. Asking have I just been cursed.

Based on my viewing, I loved every minute of this film. There are some tweaks that could have made it better but for what it was, I thought it was brilliant. It did what it set to do. It’s un-nerving the entire time.
