Await Further Instructions(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

If we’re given the choice, to obey the orders given without question, would you do so, or would you rebel? That is the crux of the situation in the movie Await Further Instructions. It’s a movie that starts off fairly enough but then saves the weirder stuff for the ending.

The plot is about a very dysfunctional family spending Christmas together, and overnight they find themselves trapped within their house. All they have is TV that has a message that says “Await Further Instructions”. They start out tame but then the instructions get more and more disturbing as the night goes on. As people start dying, the remaining family decide if they will continue obeying the commands given, or try to escape their fate.

So we get to watch as the family basically implodes as paranoia and desperation set in from being trapped and cut off from the world. At first, it is not clear the reason they are trapped. They resort to thinking it is terrorists, which doesn’t help since one of women the son is dating is foreign. The same son thinks of the solution of just turning the TV off, which just makes things worse for them. The father unquestionably obeys any command given, even if it puts his own family in danger.

So as we get to ending, it is revealed the cause of everything, and just think of The Matrix, except if the Matrix is evil. It just goes balls to the wall with the way it ends, and all the entity wants is to be worshipped as a God. I suppose it is a message just how much people trust in their TV, to the point anything that comes from it is seen a unquestionable fact. To some people, television is God, and to be worshipped without question. That is the very disturbing truth being presented in this film.

If you enjoy sci fi horrors in close quarters, then you will enjoy this one. It is currently streaming on Shudder if you want to check it out. If you already seen Await Further Instructions, feel free to leave your thoughts below!

Till next time, stay scared!
