H.P. Lovecraft’s The Deep Ones(Lovecraftian Horrors#1)(Review)

There’s definitely some schlock attributed in H.P Lovecraft’s name. We are going sive into some of those. They might be good, they might be bad but they al be found on Tubi. We will start with H.P Lovecraft’s The Deep Ones. It is very weird and will make you cringe at times not in a good way. This movie goes places.

The plot sees a couple on a coastal getaway who realize the island residents are not your usual type of people. They only realize too late the true nature of the colony they are invited into and the god they worship.
To let us know what we are in for, the movie’s opening credits start us off with gratuitous nudity. Then after that is a sex scene. To top it off and make it even weirder, someone gets deepthroated by a tentacle. Yeah that’s a thing that happens.

There’s the dinner party scene with the camera panning to every guest acting creepy and saying weird things. The last one just says “I’m Bob Finley!” and something about had me dying laughing. Then it transitions to a scene where all the men are outside watching a woman dance with hoops of fire while all the women are sitting inside watching them. Very strange to say the least

This is all set within the Cthulhu Mythos. It’s very loosely based on the H.P Lovecraft story The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

Then we get the ending and the final reveal. Yeah. The husband is there talking in a way no normal person would speak. Some lady is cavorting about fully nude. It’s something that’s for sure. Oh and there’s a post credits scene that you don’t want to see. I’ll know you will curious what it is ⁶⁶⁶all about and want to see it anyway. Remember I cautioned you from doing so. You will understand why and ask yourself why I didn’t listen.

It’s not terrible but it’s absolutely schlock. The acting, oh the acting and the dialogue at times. The effects aren’t bad, at least they didn’t go the CGI route. It’s all practical effects and people in creature suits. There is the fact it really leans into the weirdness factor. The score was pretty good as well in the way it adds to that. The story worked within the universe .

This one is currently streaming on Tubi and Amazon if you want to take a look for yourself. If you already saw The Deep Ones, what did you think of it? Let us know in the comments below!
