Innocent Blood(Review)

After the success of An American Werewolf in London, John Landis literally decided to film what he wanted to call A French Vampire in America but its famously known as Innocent Blood. He could have maybe went for Jamaican Zombie in Japan, just a whole franchise of putting the Universal Monsters in unfamiliar places. The coolest aspect of Innocent Blood is that it was filmed right in Pittsburgh.

The plot is about a beautiful French Vampire who decides to feed on criminals and scum until she inadvertently turns a mob boss who discovers he cant die and uses that as leverage to take over.

Now maybe you happened upon French Vampire films where they are rather sexual and women are in the nude most of the time. We get that here. Just no women on women sex that happens because French love their women. Now we do get sex, we even learn that vampires can hunger for that instead of blood. We even see her restrain herself during sex because she wants to bite but she knows if she does she will feed.

There are some horror legends that make a cameo we see Tom Savini of course and also Sam Raimi shows up. The movie does get rather messy so sun is definitely very deadly to these vampires. You can also kill them using conventional methods. Fire works. There’s alll kinds of gore. Also for some reason, the vampires get weird eyes and talk in distorted voices randomly.

The movie itself wasn’t bad. The lead actress just captures your attention and also this was a gangster setting too. So if you like mob movies, this may be worth watching off that basis alone. If you are a historian, just taking a look back at what Pittsburgh was back in those days. All in all, it wasnt bad just unfortunately nothing really happens until like last 15 minute of the movie.
