The Blackcoat’s Daughter(Review)

There’s slow burn horror and then there’s the very definition of slow burn horror. That’s what The Blackcoat’s Daughter is. It will take its sweet time rubbing your nerves and sanity raw by the time it’s over.

The plot involves two separate paths that eventually intersect with each other. We are following two girls who end up stranded at a boarding school that discover a dark presence is in their midst. In another plot thread we see another woman who escapes a psychiatric hospital and is making her way to the school the girls are at.

There’s a lot of build up happening and we see some disturbing things occurring as it goes on. The atmosphere is used to great effect. There is this feeling of something isn’t quite right.

The only complaint is it does get rather tedious, but then about the last half hour or so, it starts really ramping up. I won’t spoil it, but the reveal is a bit of a shock. It’s something worth seeing even though it’s not exactly the greatest horror movie. Just understand this is Osgood Perkins first effort into horror, and he does get better from here. If you’re curious, you can catch it streaming on Tubi.
