Featuring a very small cast, The Surrender explores a family’s grief and what lengths someone will go to have their loved ones back.
The plot is about a mother and daughter who are taking care of the family patriarch, and when he suddenly passes a way, the mother hires a mysterious stranger to resurrect him.
It starts out normal, almost like a Lifetime drama in a way. The mother is hanging by a thread, not ready to lose her husband. The daughter is doing everything she can to keep everything together.
We see the effects grief has on them. It isn’t until around the last 30 minutes or so that things take a darker turn. As you might expect, it all wrong, and the terror starts to escalate. And it ends in a very wild way.
I appreciated how it gives us and honest and stark view of how a family handles grief. It doesn’t do anything extra. When the stranger arrives, it really start getting interesting. I was a little confused on the ending bits. Otherwise its not that bad, but it’s also not the greatest either. It hovers somewhere around the middle.
