Shelby Oaks(Review) - Gruesome Gazette

Found footage horror uses supernatural entities as its go to, and sometimes it can work very well. It’s hard to tell how it lands with Shelby Oaks, especially when it shifts into third person view.

The plot is about a woman who is searching for her missing sister, and discovers something sinister is responsible for the disappearance.

It starts off as a found footage/mockumentary that is told via interviews and police reports, and then after the titles, it turns into events being shown in third person. There is blood and gore, and some spooky moments. Definitely will make you pay attention to what’s going on in the surroundings of the characters.

This is the debut of a YouTuber Chris Stuckmann, and he ends up making a pretty engrossing and decent horror film. Mike Flanagan helped produce it. The only recognizable actor is horror legend Keith David who makes an appearance in the film.

The main character eventually follows the trail that leads her to her missing sister, and its once she gets to that house things really take a dark turn. It leads to a very shocking ending which isnt a happy one. There’s a bit of a twist in store as well.

In all, I found it enjoyable. I was eating up the beginning parts, and once they got into the lore of the demonic entity that was involved. Some parts were creepy. That ending was just something else. This one is currently streaming on Hulu if you decide to check it out.
