Here is an oldie but goodie known as Mimic(1997). One of Guillermo Del Toro earliest works, and you can see his potential here. The film is about a fatal disease being spread to children that is being carried by cockroaches. An entomologist designs a new breed of insect to eradicate the roaches, and all seems well. Years later, the insects have evolved to eradicate their next prey…man.
The designs of the bugs are top notch especially with how they have almost perfect mimicry of a person. You don’t know they are coming until they are almost upon you. I love the fact they kept the reveal of the insects in the shadows until later on in the movie. The plot has it’s silly moments but for the most part, this was a solid film. The movie was so popular it ended with a couple of sequels.
It was fun revisiting this one, and I enjoyed as much as I remember doing when I was younger. Definitely one to check out though those with phobias of insects may not have a good time when watching this.
Till next time, stay scared!!
