Man, does it feel good to have the Predator back again. Prey is a prequel set 300 years ago and it hits all the right marks of what a Predator movie should be like. Then again the director Dan Trachtenberg did create the best entry in the Cloverfield universe so it only makes sense he would do the same in this universe.
The plot is about a Comanche warrior named Naru who is called upon to protect her tribe from a fearsome Predator and is put in an ultimate test of survival.
That’s all Naru wants to do is prove herself as a skilled warrior. But she so many factors against her. She is a woman in a man’s world after all. So she must show she can do everything a man can, even if there are those who decry her position.
As a perfect juxtaposition, the Predator is also trying to adapt to a world that is foreign to it. There are scenes where it mimics exactly what Naru has done, such as using tracking skills and facing off against other fearsome predators going from snakes to absolutely mutilating a bear. It is Naru who first discovers the Predator but because she is a woman, no one believes her until it is too late.
I do love the design of the Predator, giving it a design I would say is inspired by Native American myths. You can tell the director did his homework and ensured everything was accurately displayed. They went so far to create a Comanche Dub to make it even more of an authentic experience.
There are definite callbacks to the franchise past, including a reference to Predator 2. In fact, if you pay attention to credits, there is a neat story that further explains how the Predators acquired a certain item. Most of all, this entry was intense, action packed, and full of gory kills. We got to see more of the Predator’s toys, and yeah they were pretty devastating to the unfortunate souls he used them on.
There’s positive buzz about this one, and it is absolutely deserved. I can’t say enough of how fantastic it is, just that you need to see if for yourself. The movie is streaming on Hulu if you decide to check it out for yourself.

Till next time, stay scared!
