The Dark Half(King-Sized Horror #2)(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

George Romero turned out a gruesome adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Dark Half. Full of murder and blood, this movie was very dark indeed.

The plot is about a writer who created a pseudonym to write under, and when threatened to have his identity exposed, he decides to kill off his other identity, but learns some things cannot be killed off so easily.

Timothy Hutton has the dual role as both Thad Beaumont and George Stark, and he plays both perfectly. Another factor is how at an early age, it is discovered Thad was a twin, and he had absorbed his twin. George Stark is truly his darker side come to life, and as revenge for Thad attempting to kill him off, he takes his revenge with manic glee.

This was essentially a faithful adaptation to the novel, and was very gory throughout. I would say the George Stark was a character to be feared because the lengths he was willing to go. The ending was very stomach churning as we see someone being pecked apart by birds. The birds have an important plot point in the movie which is also explained in the novel as well.

This one of the better King adaptations, and the having Romero at the helm was a very smart choice. If you read the novel, and not seen the film, it is worth checking out. Or even if you are new to it, the average horror fan will find lots to be pleased about.

The Dark Half is currently streaming on HBOMAX if you decide to check it out! If you have already seen it, leave your thoughts below!

Till next time, stay scared!
