Fresh(2022)(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

I appreciate movies that allow the characters breathe, is not afraid to have fun, and just makes things as natural as possible. Fresh is one of those amazing horror movies that doesn’t stop from the moment it starts.

The plot sees Noa who is trying to navigate the modern dating world and runs into Steve. He instantly charms her and they begin a relationship. We are waiting for the other shoe to drop as it all seems too good to be true, and eventually it does when he reveals to her his unusual appetites.

Let’s first talk about the cinematography of this film with sweeping camera angles, close-up shots, and blurry views. They actually make you feel you are part of what’s going on. The cold open shows you how Noa and Steve first meet and then just after the reveal, that’s when we get the titles. Just brilliant all around

Then there is the emotional punch in the gut that this movie offers you. I am not going to lie, this is going to be hard to watch without needing to reach out for tissues. Once Noa discovers what a manipulative bastard Steve is, her love for him quickly becomes hate and distrust. You cheer her on to get one over him, and when she finally does…hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

This movie is tons of fun to watch and frames the real life horrors women experience when dating. It’s going to be relatable. It is currently streaming on Hulu if you decide to watch it.
