This movie exists to really show the power struggle with a man who has reached far beyond what he is capable of while adding a scenario just to show just how weak he really is despite the macho posturing.
The plot sees a couple, Adam and Eva who are looking to settle in a dystopian community and they invite business partners for a nice birthday celebration for Adam while trying to seal the deal. Secrets unfold during the night that will test everyone beyond their limits.
So what we do here is take group, take them to a boiling point and watch the fireworks happen. There is definitely tension between Adam and the owner of the community named Lucas who acquired the community through dastardly ways and then thought it be a good idea to take a powerful obelisk called the Gaeta Stone and put it in the yard of every house. Like that has ever gone well.
It really doesn’t here and you get a sense the power of the stone is influencing and escalating the tensions. There’s a home invasion that happens that really makes things complicated because by this point the group is at odds with each other and now they have to figure out how to fight back against this new threat.
You get title cards which introduce each segment that happens. The story is very engaging and you come to understand the group on an intimate level. Having the setup before getting to the real issue definitely does good for the movie. There are some kills, some that come out of nowhere. Who will survive and what will be left of them definitely applies here.
This is mode of a dark drama with some mystical elements thrown in for good measure. I liked the masks the invaders wore as well. I enjoyed my time in the film, especially the way it just slowly rose the tension within the group. It’s a pretty solid watch and I would recommend checking it out. It is currently streaming on Hulu if you choose to do so.
